Police: Wayzata Resident Interrupts Burglar

The Wayzata Police Department issued a crime alert Wednesday afternoon, alerting residents of an interrupted burglary.

Police Chief Michael J. Risvold told KSTP.COM the incident happened just after noon in the 100 block of Peavey Lane on the city's west side.

Picnic with Police

The Wayzata Spring Community Picnic is coming up next week. The Crime Prevention Coalition will host the free event. It will be an opportunity for residents to get together and learn about what the Wayzata Police Department is focusing on this summer. The picnic will be at the Wayzata Depot on Tuesday, May 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Tomorrow there is a chance of morning storms, but later in the day it will heat up. 

Fire Damages Excelsior Dunn Bros. Coffee Building

A fire was reported at the Dunn Bros. Coffee shop in downtown Excelsior early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials believe the fire started around 4 a.m. and that someone broke into the business and sprayed some of the fire extinguishers, which then set off the alarm.

Only minor damage was reported.
 

3,500 Local Hospital Workers Vote to Strike

About 3,500 members of the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to strike.  After two days of voting, 91 percent supported the strike option.

If the union calls a 2-5 day strike it would affect:

-Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina
-Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis

Floating Snack Bar Proposed for Lake Minnetonka

Right now it is illegal to sell food or water out of a watercraft on Lake Minnetonka, but two men want to change that and say their business plan will help conserve the lake.

Charles Garnaas and a friend have a vision.

"It would look like a dock, risen above the water level," Garnaas said.
