Ice Warning Working | Environment
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
A warning to keep cars and trucks off the ice appears to be working in Hennepin County. Sheriff Rich Stanek says there has been one water rescue since county officials banned large vehicles from the lakes on February 9. There have been nine rescues so far this year.
With more warm weather this weekend there were still fish houses out on Lake Minnetonka but not as many as there would probably be in a colder winter. ATV's were seen crossing the ice, but no cars or trucks.
Sheriff Stanek says deputies have been checking ice conditions periodically. He says they are also thanking people for leaving their vehicles on shore. Large signs posted near lake entrances clearly let people know about the warning.
Even with the restrictions, the ice fishing season isn't over yet. Anglers have until March 5 to get their ice houses off the lakes in Southern Minnesota.
